MAC Venomous Villains - It's Here!!!

The much awaited (for me anyway!!) MAC Venomous Villains collection was at MAC counters in Ireland today :) Yay :) I must admit that I have been looking forward to this collection since I heard about it months ago! So of course I popped into Brown Thomas today to pick up some products:)

I am delighted that I was able to get everything that I was looking for:) The only product that I was intending to purchase but didn't pick up in the end was Briar Rose - Maleficents' beauty powder. When I swatched it I just didn't love it and I was afraid that I wouldn't use it that often so I left it behind. The packaging was a little disappointing in my opinion. Once I saw it up close I didn't really like the shiny black material that was used.

Pictured above is what I purchased. I picked up the mineralized eyeshadow 'My Dark Magic', 'Strange Potion' lip gloss, 'Oh So Fair' beauty powder, 'Bite of an Apple' blush and 'Bad Fairy' nail polish. This was my first time ever purchasing a MAC nail polish so we'll see how it goes. The blush has already been depotted for me; as soon as I opened it the pan was already detached from the packaging which is a little crap since I never depot special edition blushes!! But that's not really important:-P

So I'm sure you've noticed that I'm very excited about these products:) To be honest I probably won't post a review just because they're limited edition and by the time I've played with them enough to do a review then they will more than likely be sold out:(

Did you buy anything from this collection? I hope you were able to get your hands on everything that you wanted:)

September Favourites

I'm still in shock that it's moving on to October!!! I feel like September just slipped through my fingers it went by so quickly... But I'm not going to dwell on how time is flying too much so I'll move onto the favourites now:)

1. Deborah Blush - I actually picked this up while I was away and I'm really enjoying it. The colour is a lovely soft pink, definitely more on the sheer side and when I apply it to my cheeks it makes it gives me a healthy glow an instant. It does have a slight shimmer to it but your cheek won't look like a disco ball or anything. Oh and it also has a little detachable brush which makes it very handy for touch ups during the day:)

2. Bio Oil - My skin was so incredibly dry this month:( I have dry skin all year round but my nose and the skin just above my lips was tight and cracked this month and it was awful. I tried my normal lotion style moisturisers but they actually ended up stinging the area and so did not help at all!! I started putting Bio Oil on and in a few days there was such an improvement. I tend to use Bio Oil as my moisturiser at night time anyway so I knew I wouldn't react to it, but for September I was wearing it night and day to help my skin heal. It is a product that is very hit or miss for people; if your skin is more on the oily side then it may cause you to break out. If you are planning to try it just read up a little on people's experiences with different skin types to try and predict whether it would suit your skin type or not.

3. MAC Natural MSF - A widely discussed/raved about product and you're probably sick of hearing about it by now!! To be honest when I first got this I couldn't understand what all the hype was about. I thought it was a nice product but I only ever used it for setting my foundation and I just felt that there are plenty of powders out there that can do that. Anyways, it made it into my September favourites because I started wearing it during the day as my base. I wouldn't normally touch a powder foundation with my dry skin, but as I previously mentioned I was wearing Bio Oil during the day for September and so any day that I felt I needed a touch of make up, I'd buff some of the MSF on my face and suddenly there was no trace that I had applied oil to my skin and it helped even out my skin tone as well for a natural look. I would not use this on dry skin as a base without applying an oil or something equally as moisturising beforehand because otherwise it will make your skin feel tight and uncomfortable (as powder foundations tend to do as they're not aimed for dry skin!!).

4. Carmex Classic Lip Balm - ahhh carmex. I'm sure you all know of Carmex and most of you have probably tried it. It has a strong scent to it which I used to hate but now I really like it - I think it's because I associate it with healing :) Carmex also an unpleasant taste so don't apply it just before drinking or eating because its bound to transfer and make whatever you're trying to enjoy taste less than appetising!!! However, this was the only lip balm that when applied helped my dry lips this month, all others such as Burts Bees etc failed miserably and so it is worth the bad taste for the great effect it has:)

5. Random Favourites: Stellar Magazine and the Script album Science and Faith - Both are a little off topic I know but favourites of the month none the less:) Loving the new Script album, I am listening to it constantly!! Stellar magazine on the other hand is not a new discovery as such. I've bought it a number of times in the last few months and I actually really like it:) I especially love that if you see something you like the price is in euros and you have the satisfaction of knowing that it is actually available in Ireland!! Also, if you're interested, the most recent issue (with Jessica Alba on the cover) has a section labelled 'Think Pink' which covers breast cancer awareness from pg126-129 just in time for October which is breast cancer awareness month.

That's it to be honest!!! September was a very quiet month for noteworthy product finds; many of the items I purchased during September were actually quite disappointing. I think that I'm going to go through my stash and hopefully rediscover some products over the month of October. Although undoubtedly next months favourites will include some products from the MAC Venomous Villains collection as I am planning a haul :)!!!! Have you spotted anything from the collection that you would like to purchase?

Just a little info...

Hi there :) Since I never really introduced myself when I started my blog I figured I should do a mini intro now! I am just an Irish girl in her twenties with pale skin who happens to enjoy playing with make up:) Firstly, I must admit that I only discovered my make up addiction about a year ago... Basically since I was 17 I pretty much used the same products without thinking about trying others. Back then I only ever wore make up on nights out and the only thing that even crossed my mind to experiment with was eyeshadow colours.

Last year brought about a big change after a horrible breakout. I never had acne as a teenager but after using the Neutrogena wave on a consistent basis my skin suffered the worst breakout I can remember having; all along my jaw line was covered in small red bumps (I'm sure you know the kind I'm trying to describe) and I became very self conscious. At that stage the only foundation that I had was MAC Studio Tech which I found too heavy to wear during the day. So I went to Benefit looking for a new foundation and bought one of their playsticks. Long story short it was the wrong colour, but it took me two weeks of wear to actually notice :-P

So then I started experimenting more with make up in an attempt to cover my breakout. One day I opened youtube and noticed the 'How to and Style' option for the first time!!! It was a video by DulceCandy87 demonstrating how to use MAC's Gilt By Association eyeshadow. I thought to myself, wow this is fantastic!!! This girl shows you how to create a gorgeous look step by step and you can see exactly how to achieve the look. From there I started watching more videos and finding more guru's with helpful tips and tricks. I couldn't believe that there was this massive online beauty community that I never knew existed until then :) As you can probably tell since I've started my own blog I am addicted!!! I just think that all of these people sharing their tips and experience with each other is so wonderful:)

So this blog is my little contribution:) Welcome to ebeautyreview.blogspot.com :) I hope that you find something helpful and enjoy reading what I have to offer :)

Nail Art - my attempt :-P

Nail art is something that I find incredibly difficult and I really admire those who can master it :) For the most part my ventures into nail art consist of painting my ring finger nails a different colour or just adding glitter. Sometimes I try to do something a little extra and above you can see my most recent attempts which I thought I'd share with you!! What do you think :)? Simple enough but they were a nice touch on the days I wore them in my opinion. Took me forever to do though!!! I don't have the patience or the steady hand for anything more detailed than what you see:-P Have you ever tried your hand at nail art? What designs have you come up with?

Review - Nicky Clarke Intense Defence Curling Tong Spritz

Heat protectant is a product that I've only recently started to use consistently. Over the last few months I've been trying to be very good when it comes to hair care because I'm trying to encourage mine to grow - of course it's taking forever, you know how it goes,!

Anyways, I've been buying hair treatment products left right and centre trying to do right by my hair!! However, on my trip out to find a heat protectant for when I curl my hair I found the selection to be quite limited. If you use a heat protectant designed for straightening then it will just weigh down your hair and the curls won't last as long.

Finally I came across Nicky Clarke Intense Defence Curling Tong Spritz as pictured to the left. I love it:) It really is as simple as that!!!! It is a clear spray and doesn't really have any scent. My hair never feels crunchy in any way after use and since I've started using it I've noticed that my curls also last longer. All in all it does everything that I want it to do and so I have no complaints:) It is a great product and I'm so happy that I found it. What's more, I came across it in a euro store so it only cost me €2!!!

I would definitely repurchase :)

Limited Edition Festival Travalo

For those of you who haven't heard the word 'Travalo' it is a mini refillable perfume spray that is very handy for carrying around in your handbag as it is the same size as a lipstick :) I mentioned this product in my July favourites post. I can't rave enough about how much I love these mini refillable sprays!!! I just can't be without one now; they are an absolute must have item for me :)

Anyway, this is just a quick post to let you know that there is a new pattern out which I believe is limited edition. It is a light metallic blue/teal colour with silver flowers which is quite adorable in my opinion:) It also comes with a strap for if you wanted to wear it around your neck. I purchased mine from The Perfume Shop - you can see their shop logo on the strap so it must be exclusive to their stores. If you're interested then you should go to your nearest store and see if they still have some. It costs €9 and holds 4mls of perfume when full which is around 50 sprays.

I hope anyone who is interested in this new design manages to get their hands on one:) I was so excited when I got mine!!!

Review - Wet n Wild Lipsticks

Along with my dry skin I suffer from dry lips and so I've never been much of a lip product person. Wearing lipstick always seemed to result in my dry lips becoming more noticeable so I used to avoid wearing it and instead settle for lip balm. There's nothing worse than wearing lipstick which makes dry cracked lips stand out!!

Recently however, I have been branching into buying and trying out different types of lipsticks. Lipstick always seems to be a product that so many people purchase and get really excited about so I felt that I was missing out! Since there are so many different brands that offer varying types of finished I have started discovering some products that actually work well for me:) Great news for my lips but not so much for my financial status :-p I picked up 2 Wet n Wild lipsticks quite a few months ago while on a trip in Killarney. The packaging is the exact same for both lipsticks but they are actually two different finishes.

Pictured on the right is 'Pink Ice' and it is a gloss and shine finish. As you can see it's not a very bright pink, just a lovely wash of colour on the lips. It's more of a neutral pink, at least on my skintone anyway.

This photo is of 'Blushing Taupe' which is a silk finish lipstick. Again this is more of a neutral colour but not one that won't wash you out. I tend to avoid the true colours such as MAC Creme d'Nude - I need a little but of colour on my lips or else I look sickly!!

Firstly, I have to say that the packaging for both of these is awful!!! As you can see from the first photo, the top of the lipstick is taller than the canister and so you have to be very careful when you are putting the lid back on. No matter how careful I am I always end up nicking the top of the lipstick off the lid and it just gets a little messy!

Other than that I love these wet n wild lipsticks:) Although the finishes are listed as two different types I find that they are very similar on the lips. The only difference is that Pink Ice does have a more glossy finish to it.

Both of them glide onto the lips very easily. They have a smooth consistency which slides over the dry patches on my lips without clinging onto them and making them more obvious which is a huge bonus for me! I've also never experienced any drying feeling while wearing either of these shades. Like any other lipsticks, they last a certain while after application but they will inevitably fade and need to be reapplied. I love both of these lipsticks equally; the colours are great, the texture is smooth and they both have a lovely somewhat shiny finish:)

I would definitely repurchase these lipsticks - I just wish the packaging was different for us clumsy people!!
